Starting Arrow Season 2!

I quite liked the first season of Arrow, and I am now starting to watch the second.  The second season is building on the events of the first, and it is continuing its transition from the standard CW teen romance show in to a full fledged superhero TV show.  Though I was disappointed in the first episode.  It was very un-Green Arrow like to run away sulk, but once he is back in Starling City (I hope they change that to Star City it was pointless to rename it), he gets back to being the best Batman rip-off around.

It is one of my favorite shows on TV, and it gives me high hopes for all of the other DC properties hitting the small screen this October.  If they can manage to make a good Justice League on TV, I would be a very happy geek!

NEW PACIFIC RIM IN 2017!!!!!

Well I didn’t see that coming! Though I did tell you this movie made money.  Yesterday via YouTube Guillermo del Toro announced that he is creating a Pacific Rim cartoon, more comic books, and most importantly a movie that will come out in 2017!

This was my favorite movie from last year, so to have so much more Pacific Rim stuff coming out is incredibly exciting for me.  It is just a shame that we have to wait for three more years.  Maybe after this we will get that Pacific Rim vs. Godzilla movie they were talking about (crosses all fingers and toes)?  I have included the very happy video below.

Westeros Keeps Getting Crazier In Game Of Thrones Season 4!

Game-Of-Thrones

So season 4 of Game of Thrones has come to an end, and I am happy to say that unlike last year, this season went out with a bang.  Everything is different after this finale.  This is the type of episode the drives home the fact that no one is safe in Westeros, and that all the people that think they are good at playing the Game of Thrones, are not.  It was also nice to see some feaking justice in this show for once!  I am concerned that they are getting rid of all the interesting people, but at least for now they have me very excited to see what happens next.

This season as a whole has had a much better pace.  It balanced out the action and the politics very well.  They managed to cram a lot in to these ten episodes.  If they do to much more they might have to start having longer seasons (only crazy people would complain about that).  Though if the writers do that they may run out of material since George R. R. Martin hasn’t finished book six yet.  I hope the show can keep up the momentum for next year, because if so this HBO subscriber is locked in until the series is done!

Is Dr. Fate In The New Constantine Show?!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A8YAlnMVELw

So it looks like there may be some other DC superheroes showing up in NBC’s Constantine.  If you watch the trailer above at about the 47 second mark Constantine picks up the helmet of Dr. Fate!  Dr. Fate would be a great addition to this show.  He is one of DC’s best sorcerers, and he would fit in really well with Constantine’s supernatural vibe.  Hopefully this is not just a tease, but they really start adding in some of DC’s heroes to this show.

AMC Wants You To Halt And Catch Fire!

Halt-And-Catch-Fire

If there is one thing we should all be sure of by now, it is that AMC loves period TV shows.  Mad Men, Turn, Hell on Wheels, even The Walking Dead to an extent, and they are adding another one to the list: Halt and Catch Fire.  The name refers to a piece of machine code that will destroy the computer.  It pulls double duty here since the show is about going toe to toe with IBM by reverse engineering an IBM computer, so either IBM sues them into oblivion, or the computer they are reverse engineering will execute that code to protect itself.

This show gives off a very Mad Men vibe.  It has a strong male lead Joe MacMillan (Lee Pace) driving the show forward, and he is bending everyone around him to his will.  He will stop at nothing to get what he wants.  Even if it means destroying a profitable software company in the process by forcing them to fund his crazy venture.

They recreated the 80s perfectly.  The tone and setting are all great.  The writers also did a great job of making a show about getting ones and zeros off of a bios chip exciting, and I am legitimately interested to see if these guys can take IBM down.  I am not sure how many seasons that they can keep this going for, but it is definitely different.

The actors are quite good as well.  Lee Pace plays the main character just on the edge of being crazy, but still smart enough to get what he wants.  Scoot McNairy is believable as Gordon Clark an electrical engineer looking to make his mark, and Pace’s crazy character gives him the spark he needs.  I am not sure about Mackenzie Davis‘ Cameron Howe yet, but she didn’t get a ton of screen time, so I hope she gets to come in to her own.

AMC’s shows are not always hits, but at least they are continually trying new things.  The 80s are a fun decade to explore, and the start of the IBM clones should be cool story line.  If geeks have become cool in the last decade, then this show is as cool as it gets because it is extremely geeky.  I hope AMC can build on this great pilot.
